Weigh in on future affordable housing priority applicant policy

Placer County is working on drafting a potential Affordable Housing Priority Applicant Policy countywide. Community members are encouraged to participate in this process and provide feedback on this potential policy or ask county staff questions below.

Many jurisdictions throughout California are implementing similar tenant preference policies to help prioritize certain applicant groups for affordable housing to ensure local housing needs are met. Preferences could include local workers, current residents, individuals at risk of housing instability or other criteria.

County staff discussed a draft policy with the Placer County Board of Supervisors at its Nov. 18 meeting in North Lake Tahoe.

The draft policy includes the following preferences:

  • Geographic Preference: Applicants meeting the local worker or residency requirements below are preferred within their geographic region: the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District boundary or western Placer County respectively. View the map here.
  • Local Worker: Is currently employed an average of 30 or more hours per week over the course of a calendar year, or meets full-time employed equivalency (as demonstrated through an employer verification or yearly revenue for self-employed individuals) at a location within the TTUSD geographical boundary (for projects within that area) or other portions of the Placer County geographical boundary (for projects within that area), or for/as a business whose principal coverage area is within the TTUSD geographical boundary (for projects within that area) or other portions of the Placer County geographical boundary (for projects within that area).
  • Local Resident: Currently has primary residency within the TTUSD geographical boundary (for projects within that area) or other portions of the Placer County geographical boundary (for projects within that area), or has had primary residency within the TTUSD or Placer County geographical boundaries (for projects within those respective areas) within the last 10 years.
