CWPPs focus on reducing wildfire risk to people, homes, businesses, watersheds, cultural resources, infrastructure, natural ecosystems, and other values or resources within a defined planning area

CWPPs help communities prioritize wildfire risk reduction activities and access funds to carry them out.

A CWPP has several requirements it must meet to be considered a valid plan.

• Documentation that the plan was collaboratively developed and included public engagement
• Assessment of wildfire hazard and risk
• Prioritized actions to address hazardous fuels and reduce structural ignitability
• Signed approval by authorized representatives from the local government, fire department, and CAL FIRE (Local CAL FIRE Unit Chief, Contract County Fire Chief, or their designee)
• Additional content to describe the planning area, plan goals and objectives, roles and responsibilities, response and suppression capabilities, and more

Placer County was awarded $350,000 from the CAL FIRE Wildfire Prevention Grant specifically for the development of a Countywide Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP)

The main guidance used for the development of the CWPP will be the new Community Wildfire Protection Plan Guide, co-developed by subject matter experts from across California. We intend to incorporate all of the Requirements and Recommendations outlined in the planning process, in coordination with the selected firm and all of our community organizations and agency partners
